Two of these distinctive cabinets were produced.
One, as seen, of Sugar maple and Walnut which currently is in my home and
the other made of Eastern Birch and Walnut. It is currently in a clients
home in Virginia. Having a set purpose does not always make the idea come faster. This cabinet is a case in point. Knowing I needed to store wine flat and wanting to have room for glasses and an opened bottle while keeping the size down to somewhat human scale were the starting criteria. Once at the sketch book the recurring shape of
the bottle and glass kept creeping into my pencil strokes and I began to
see the similarities between the two. One door the bottle one the
glass.... The case work is raised panel on all four sides with a simple square 1/4" reveal inside and out. Inside the cabinets boast storage for 24 regular bottles laid flat in adjustable racks, should one wish to store oversized bottles. The center shelf is fixed and was designed to store glasses and any open bottles. All of the joinery was done using loose tenons,
the pieces were left unstained and were finished with three coats of
lacquer. As with all quality furniture the panels edges were pre finished
before assembly to ensure a line would not develop around the edges in dry
climates. |
